Working in the field of education has always been my dream. I grew up witnessing the love and pride that my mother, grandmother, aunts, and uncles had for their chosen profession as educators. Whenever I was in public with one of them and they would run into a student (past or present), I was able to see how they had impacted that person through their work as a teacher; I desired to have this same impact on people. My student summer job as the Children's Program Coordinator for my local library solidified my career desires. I arrived at work early every day to set-up my programs, and spent my evenings preparing lessons that I hoped the children would find unique, engaging, and exciting. I was excited each morning to see the reactions on the children's faces as they experienced the lesson that I had worked to create for them. I love having the opportunity to work one on one with students and witness the "ah ha" moment that occurs after I have taught them something that they may not have understood before. |
