For all of my teaching friends who are in a new LTO, like myself, and are starting the process of completing progress reports - I have some resources for you! Websites with helpful tips on how to write specific comments, and what exactly progressing very well/well/with difficulty mean in relation to grade level standards.
Hope you find these resources as helpful as I did! https://www.ugdsb.ca/parents/elementary-progress-report-card/ http://www.ontarioreportcards.com/uploads/1/7/1/4/17141864/growing_success_report_card_comments.pdf

Making provides a different pathway to learning This morning I attended a session on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) through my school board's Summer Learning Institute. First of all, how amazing is it that the board offers free professional development in the summer?! Shoutout to my colleague Clare for putting me in the know about this! This session offered a multitude of ways to use robotics, coding, and Makerspace as entrance points to the curriculum. I should stress that STEAM is not something that teachers are doing on top of their already hectic schedules, and detailed lesson plans; robotics, coding, and Makerspace are ways to make the curriculum more accessible, and relatable for all types of learners. Fortunately for my followers, the session leaders (@MrsJFlinn and @scurtismyers - on Twitter) encouraged us to share the documents from today's session! Below are links to a few slide decks that were shared with us; all of which include some fantastic, and simple, ways to integrate STEAM into your classroom learning community! I feel so honoured to be featured in an article by Canadian Military Family Magazine! I belong to two wonderful communities: education and the military. Both communities offer me endless opportunities to meet new people, and make a difference in the lives of others.
Please share this article to help me spread the word about my teaching quest!
If you're teaching "Flight" in Science this month, check out this video I found! Your students are sure to love it as much as mine did! Making Science cool!
Mental health is such an important topic for modern teachers to verse ourselves on. Please take a read through this article posted by the Ontario Teachers' Federation to help make yourself aware.
