With all that has been going on in our world, and our country, in the last week, the sermon this weekend at church about the Beatitudes could not have been more fitting. The priest reflected on these beautiful words. I hope that you will also take the time to do so if you are grieving, searching for answers, or wondering how to approach these topics in your classroom.

As teachers, it is our job to provide a safe space for students to open up, and feel able to talk about their mental health. We must encourage positive mental health practices at every grade level. Teachers are in a position to normalize talk about mental health.
Please use the hashtag today #bellletstalk , to help raise awareness, and funds for mental health initiatives. My mother forwarded me this blog post and I just had to share. Titled "20 Inspirational Quotes to Start 2017", by the blog The Principles of Change, hopefully you can use some of these quotes to guide the first few weeks of the new year!
Check it out! http://georgecouros.ca/blog/archives/6971
Above, is my favourite quote from the most recent OTF Connects PD webinar that I participated in. I love how the moderator focused on the importance of creating math lessons that incorporate everyday math challenges! It was refreshing to hear the many creative ways that we, as teachers, can do this rather than teach from a textbook. Check out my notes from the session below, for more inspiring messages and ideas! Hopefully this is where our assessments are heading! Would love to, one day soon, see a report card that includes comments on these categories rather than percentage marks.
What do you all think about this?

TodaysMeet is an online tool designed to give every student a voice in discussions. It supports deep learning for all students, as it facilitates discussion in a way that allows everyone to contribute in a meaningful and comfortable way. https://todaysmeet.com/ I hope that you can find a way to use this in your classrooms! |
